We've finally managed to put our brightest-in-the-world strontium aluminate glow dust into a useable paint!

Vegan Glow-worm Paint holds the maximum possible amount of glow material, while remaining useable for years.

It's a pale green/yellow when it's not glowing, but charge it up with the sun, a torch, or even better, a UV light, and it will emit a ridiculous green glow which is still just visible over 12 hours later!

This is a water-based acrylic paint. It's designed for large-scale painting, but can be used for anything you fancy. Paint walls, ceilings, wood, metal, indoors, outdoors, your imagination is the limit. The finish is hard-wearing and moisture-resistant.

Coverage:

Please be aware that this paint is translucent, due to the translucent nature of the glow powder within it. Coverage is therefore thinner than standard wall paints, because it contains no pigment other than the glow powder. The lack of any other pigments however, means that with a bit of time, it's possible to create the brightest glow in the dark wall humanly possible.

For best results, apply over a white base or primer. The coverage varies depending on how it's applied (roller, brush, spray), but as a guide:

  • 1 coat - you will have a patchy but bright glow in the dark wall. When not glowing, it will look very similar to the original wall.
  • 2 coats  - you will have a brighter glow in the dark wall that's still slightly patchy. When not glowing, it will be a pale green with poor coverage.
  • 3 coats - if application is good, you now have the brightest possible glowing wall. When not glowing, it will be mostly pale green, though won't be fully covered.
  • 4 coats - the glow can't get much brighter than this, and non-glow coverage will be almost 100% - a consistent pale green.
  • 5 coats - it may take 5 or more coats to achieve full non-glow coverage if you're painting over a colour that isn't white, or painting on a textured wall.
One litre will cover around 10-15 sqm with a single coat, or 2-5 sqm at full glow. These are estimates based on small-scale tests, and we will update this when we have tested further.

Due to the dense nature of strontium aluminate particles, this paint is approximately twice as dense as standard wall paint. You don't need to know this, we just think it's interesting.

The science of glows:

  • Strontium Aluminate is a molecule made from Strontium, Aluminium, and Oxygen.
  • Strontium Aluminate molecules vary in complexity, with the exact molecular composition determining the colour it emits.
  • The brightest possible molecular composition makes this shade of green - it's impossible to get a glow-in-the-dark substance that is brighter.
